I believe women should have the right to choose.  I do not believe the government should be involved in regulating it.  As a woman, I should not be forced to carry a child if I do not want that.  The government does not have the right to dictate what I do with my body.   

I believe we need to teach people about contraception, because I do not believe abortion should be people's contraception.  But abortion should absolutely stay legal.

I believe education is critically important to the welfare of our country.  Though Bush has the "no kid left behind" campaign, it is clearly failing.  Kids are still dropping out of school, and some who graduate are not educated. 

I believe we put too much emphasis on standardized testing.  In my generation, we did not have those tests.  Instead, we were taught everything - not just what would help us pass the tests.  It seems to me that as we put more emphasis on these tests, the kids get less educated.  I know standardized tests are a way to objectively evaluate a school.  But we need to do what will make this generation of kids smarter.  We need to keep good teachers who are leaving, because they are fed up with the education system.  

While I say all of this, I believe education should fall primarily to the states to regulate.  The federal government should have a smaller role in education.

I believe we need to look for additional re-newable energy sources.  We need to put more emphasis and focus on solar energy.  The sun is free.  We need to take advantage of it. 

We need to also focus on wind power and other sustainable sources of energy. 

I believe what we have done and continue to do to the environment is a disgrace.  We waste so much in this country.  Just 20 years ago, we had large expanses of undeveloped land.  Now those spaces are going away.  We encroach on the habitats of wild animals and then kill them when they come near our houses.  It is a disgrace to me.    

If we continue to destroy the environment, we have no chance for saving it.  Once land is developed and destroyed, it is gone.  We cannot go back and change it.  

I believe we need to take measures to stop global warming before it is too late.  We have to seek the advice of scientists.  We have amazingly smart scientists in this country.  Surely some of them have suggestions.  I believe in capitalism.  But we need to look at the long-term consequences of our decisions.  We may have to tax corporations that pollute at a higher level.  We may need to lower taxes for companies that come up with environmental solutions.  Though that would make big corporations unhappy, we must consider the consequences of not becoming more environmental now.

I believe the government has no business being involved in regulating whether or not committed gay people should be married.  This is a clear example of mixing church and state.  The church says it's immoral.  There is no other reason for the government to be involved. 

I believe we should allow people to live their lives as they want, so long as no one is hurt.  When a committed gay couple gets married, no one is hurt.  That is their business, not the government's. 

This is a tough one.  I believe our Health Care system is truly a shame.  The fact that we have millions of adults and children without health care shows that our health care system is a mess.  

I get particularly bothered that insurance companies are allowed to automatically disqualify people, because they may have potential health problems or they have disqualifying diseases.  For example, insurance companies will automatically reject any person with diabetes, whether that person is healthy or not.  People with Type 1 diabetes (juvenile diabetes) can be extremely healthy.  But even if they are in perfect shape, eat well, exercise daily and are a model of health, they will automatically be disqualified for insurance.  That should not happen.  Insurance companies should have to evaluate people individually.   

I believe we need to teach people about health early, so we do not end up with so much disease.  I also believe we need to give complimentary health care, such as nutrition, chiropractic, acupuncture, etc, equal footing to traditional medicine. 

I do not believe illegal immigrants should receive health care, schooling and other services provided by taxpayer money.  I also believe our schools should teach only in English.  We are not helping the kids when they learn only in their native tongue.  By learning English, they have a chance to get an education and have a good future.  Young kids can easily learn new languages, so there is absolutely no reason to teach in a language other than English.  

By learning English, these kids can also assist their parents and relatives who do not speak English.  That makes things safer (ie when calling 911).   

I believe we should not have gone into Iraq.  I am not sure how we can have a war when Congress did not declare war.  Also, we are creating a bigger deficit and hurting future generations, because we have spent billions of dollars in Iraq.  I have no idea why that has been acceptable to Americans. 

I believe we need to come up with a plan to get out of Iraq immediately. 

We obviously need to protect our country.  With the War on Iraq, we are vulnerable now to new terrorist attacks and other threats.  By pulling out of Iraq, we will have more soldiers for these other needs.  

Of course, if we didn't **** off the world so much, maybe we wouldn't have such high security needs.
